Canadian scholar, teacher, translator of
Tibetan texts, editor, writer. Born in
1949, Quebec, Canada.
Joined Buddhist Studies Program at Tibetan Library, Dharamsala
(1972-76). Later he studied at the Dialectic School for 6 years.
Had written many books of which eight focuses on the lives and
works of the early Dalai Lamas. He has also worked as a field
specialist on three Tibet-related films and five television
documentaries, and has co-produced five audio recordings of
Tibetan sacred music.
After returning from India in 1984 he founded and directed The
Mystical Arts of Tibet, an association of Dharma friends that
was instrumental in bringing the first tours of Tibetan monks to
North America to perform sacred Temple music and dance, as well
as create mandala sand paintings. This association had three
objectives: contribute mystically to world peace and planetary
healing; raise awareness of the Tibet situation; and generate
funds for the refugee community in India. It later became
dedicated to the activities of Drepung Loseling, the largest of
Tibet's monastic universities. He also helped Ganden Shartsey
and Ganden Jangtsey develop their first Western tours.
Curated a number of important Tibetan art exhibitions. In 1991
he designed The Art of Compassion for Tibet House in New Delhi,
which traveled to several countries in Europe and Asia. Then in
1996 he curated The Mystical Arts of Tibet, featuring personal
sacred objects of HH the Dalai Lama," as a joint project with
The Drepung Loseling Institute and the Oglethorpe University
Museum of Art, that premiered in Atlanta during the Summer
Olympics and then toured North America for six years to follow,
showing in over a dozen states in America, as well as in Canada
and Taiwan. Recently he created ‘The Female Buddha: Women of
Enlightenment in Tibetan Mysticism’, as a joint project with the
Oglethorpe University Museum of Art in Atlanta and the Rubin
Museum of Art in New York. He also wrote the readers that
accompanied these three exhibits. Glenn has lectured and
conducted workshops on Tantric Buddhism throughout the United
States, Canada, South America, Europe and Australia. His
favorite topics include Tibetan Kundalini Yoga, Tibetan Dream
Yoga, The Tantric Yogas for Healing Self and Others, and similar
subjects.
He lives with his wife and family in Atlanta, and divides his
time between writing, lecturing, meditating, and leading
pilgrimages to the power places of Central Asia. |
