Pioneer Italian Tibetologist.
 

Born Macerata in 1894.

Obtained his D.Litt. from University of Rome (1919), where he became a Lecturer, and then Professor of the Religons and Philosophies of India (to 1969). Elected to Italian Academy (1929) and founded IsMEO in Rome (1933). He traveled, researched, and collected manuscripts and artifacts on several expeditions to Tibet (1927-48).
