Pioneer English Pali Scholar, translator.
Frank Lee Woodward was born in 1871 in Norfork,
England.
Educated at Christ Hospital and Sidney Sussex College,
Cambridge. Became a schoolmaster and began study of Pali and
Sanskrit, East and West philosophy and comparative religion.
Joined Theosophical Society (1902); headmaster of Mahinda
College, Sri Lanka (1903-1919); left for Tasmania and dedicated
remainder of life to producing translation for Pali Text
