Caroline Augusta Foley was born in 1843

Educated at home and at University College, London where she also obtained her MA and D.Litt degrees and became a Fellow. Member of the Economic Journal (1891-95), worked on behalf of various societies for the welfare of women and children (1890-04), and was a campaigner for women’s suffrage (1896-1914).

Appointed Lecturer in Indian Philosophy at Manchester University (1910-13), Lecturer in the History of Buddhism at the School of Oriental and African Studies, London (1918-33).

Collaborated with husband, Rhys Davids in Pali Text Society and succeeded him as President (1922-42)
